Baku-based football club Neftchi has officially signed left-back Rufat Abbasov, marking its first transfer for the upcoming season.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the capital club has secured a three-year contract with the defender, who will wear the number 3 jersey. Abbasov, a product of Neftchi's youth academy, was first promoted to the first team during the 2021/2022 season, making two official appearances.
Over the past two seasons, the young defender played for Shamakhi FC. He has also represented the Azerbaijan U-21 national team in 17 matches and has recently received a call-up to the senior national team of Azerbaijan. Neftchi FC, one of the oldest and most successful football clubs in Azerbaijan, is currently restructuring its squad to compete for top honors in the domestic league and European competitions.
