A homicide case committed last year in the Shamkir district of Azerbaijan has been solved following a comprehensive investigation. According to a joint statement from the press services of the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that on December 23, 2023, the Shamkir District Prosecutor's Office received a report regarding the discovery of the body of Solmaz Mahmudova (born 1957), which bore clear signs of violence. As a result of coordinated operational and investigative measures conducted by police and prosecutor's office employees, it was determined that Mahmudova was intentionally killed by Arzu Hamidli (born 1996). Hamidli has been detained as a suspect and handed over to the investigation.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Shamkir District Prosecutor's Office under Article 120.1 (intentional murder) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. The preliminary investigation is currently ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the crime. In Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General's Office frequently conduct joint operations to ensure public safety and the swift resolution of serious crimes, maintaining a high clearance rate for violent offenses across the country.
