Milli Majlis discusses Central Election Commission reformation

The Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan has commenced its next plenary session of the spring session to address several key legislative matters. The primary focus of the meeting is the reformation and appointment of members to the Central Election Commission (CEC).

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the agenda for the session includes a total of 11 items. A central component of the discussions involves the appointment of both permanent and substitute members to the CEC. The plenary session is being presided over by Speaker Sahiba Gafarova.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) is the supreme state body responsible for the organization and conduct of elections and referendums throughout Azerbaijan. According to the Electoral Code, the commission's composition is designed to reflect the political balance within the Milli Majlis, consisting of 18 members representing the parliamentary majority, minority parties, and independent deputies. This renewal process ensures the continued transparency and legal compliance of the nation's electoral infrastructure.
