Lionel Messi addressed fans after his final match for Argentina. He said he already missed wearing the national team shirt and believed his decision was the right one.
“It was an incredible journey filled with great joy and, at the same time, disappointments. I know for certain that every step I took along the way was worth it,” Messi wrote.
The Argentina captain thanked his family, friends, teammates, coaches and the clubs he has represented. He also remembered Diego, saying he had returned the country to the place it deserved. Messi added that God’s guidance and will had played a role in his achievements.
The footballer expressed his love for the fans and thanked them for standing by him. He also thanked the clubs he played for, saying they had made it possible for him to wear the national team shirt and respected his feelings.
Cristiano Ronaldo also responded to Messi’s post. The Portuguese footballer wrote that his Argentine counterpart had represented his country for many years and made history that would be remembered, adding that he had great respect for Messi’s achievements with Argentina.
