Liverpool is considering options to strengthen its squad after an unsuccessful start to the season. The Merseyside club is interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
“Operative Information Center-OMM”, citing El Nacional, reports that Liverpool wants to include its player Florian Wirtz in a potential deal for de Jong.
Under this scenario, Barcelona could also be required to make an additional payment to the English club.
Barcelona’s transfer demand
The Catalan club is open to selling de Jong but is demanding at least 65 million euros for the midfielder. Liverpool considers that amount too high.
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick is interested in Wirtz, who has not fully demonstrated his potential at Liverpool. However, the Catalan side already has several players in that position, and it remains unclear whether the club will accept the English team’s proposal.
De Jong, a Netherlands international, joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 and has since become an important part of the club’s midfield. Transfer negotiations involving established players can also depend on salary terms, squad planning and the approval of all parties.
