Kazakhstan hosted an Aqaba Process summit on artificial intelligence security in Astana on Friday, Anadolu Agency reported.

According to a statement from Kazakhstan’s presidential press service, Akorda, attendees included President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Other participants included Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev and Sahiba Gafarova, speaker of Azerbaijan’s National Assembly.

Launched by King Abdullah II in 2015, the Aqaba Process provides a platform for countries and international organizations to address emerging security threats and improve coordination in the fight against terrorism.

King Abdullah II arrived in Astana on Thursday and held bilateral talks with Tokayev, who said Kazakhstan values the initiative.

“It is a great honor for us to co-organize the first meeting in this format to be held in Central Asia. The theme of this session – security in the realm of artificial intelligence – is highly relevant today,” Tokayev said, according to Akorda.

He said he was confident the summit would provide an opportunity to present the Central Asian region’s perspective and give fresh impetus to collective efforts to maintain peace and security.
