Azerbaijan considers the People's Republic of China one of its key economic partners and attaches great importance to the further deepening of bilateral cooperation. Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov made these remarks in an interview with China's Global Times newspaper.
The minister noted that Azerbaijan places strategic importance on aligning its transport infrastructure and transit capabilities with initiatives supported by China. He emphasized the goal of strengthening the position of the Middle Corridor as a reliable transport route between East and West. According to Jeyhun Bayramov, Baku also considers the expansion of cooperation with China in education, culture, tourism, and humanitarian fields as a priority, serving to strengthen mutual understanding and trust between the peoples of the two nations.
Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan–China relations represent a long-term, multidimensional, and comprehensive strategic partnership model based on mutual benefit. He stated that this partnership is built on solid relations between the national leaders, mutual political trust, and high-level dialogue. Furthermore, the minister identified cooperation in renewable energy, green technologies, and sustainable development as forward-looking priority areas.
The Foreign Minister also highlighted Azerbaijan's intention to expand cooperation with China within international and regional platforms, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). In his view, these multilateral mechanisms create extensive opportunities for addressing regional challenges, fostering dialogue, and strengthening trust. "Azerbaijan's experience in regional diplomacy and China's global influence can jointly make a significant contribution to strengthening trust," the minister added.
The strengthening of ties between Baku and Beijing comes amid a significant increase in cargo transit through the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the Middle Corridor. As Azerbaijan continues to invest heavily in its logistics hubs and the Port of Baku, the synergy with China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has become a cornerstone of the country's economic diversification strategy. This strategic alignment not only enhances regional connectivity but also solidifies Azerbaijan's role as a pivotal bridge between Asia and Europe.
