Japan typhoon Dujuan death toll rises to nine

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said Typhoon Dujuan continues to have a severe impact on eastern parts of the country, including the capital Tokyo and surrounding prefectures.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Japan Meteorological Agency issued an official warning.

Experts warned that heavy rains brought by the disaster could continue throughout the week and urged residents to remain vigilant.

According to the latest information from Japan’s Kyodo news agency, the death toll from the natural disaster has risen to nine. Six of those killed were residents of Chiba Prefecture, while three were from Kanagawa Prefecture.

Search-and-rescue operations are continuing around the clock to locate four people reported missing amid flooding and landslides caused by the typhoon. Emergency services in the region are operating under an enhanced response regime.

Japan’s meteorological authorities routinely issue evacuation and flood warnings during typhoons, as heavy rainfall can trigger flooding and landslides even after the storm’s strongest winds have passed.
