The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have carried out a precision strike against the Taleghan research center near Tehran, a facility allegedly used for the development of nuclear weaponry.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the military's press service released a statement regarding the operation. According to the IDF, the site had been utilized in recent years for conducting sensitive experiments involving advanced explosives under the framework of the Amad project, a clandestine program aimed at creating nuclear weapons. Intelligence reports indicated that Iran had begun efforts to restore the facility after it was previously damaged during an attack in October 2024.
The strike comes in the wake of a significant escalation in regional hostilities. On February 28, US President Donald Trump and Israel initiated joint military operations against Iran. These operations reportedly resulted in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several other high-ranking officials. Following these events, Iran launched retaliatory strikes against Israel and targets in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, and Cyprus, specifically targeting locations housing US and allied military bases.
The Taleghan facility, located within the Parchin military complex, has long been a point of contention for international nuclear inspectors. Historically, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has sought access to such sites to verify Iran's compliance with non-proliferation agreements. The destruction of this research hub represents a major setback for Tehran's alleged nuclear ambitions and marks a critical turning point in the ongoing conflict between the US-led coalition and the Iranian administration.
