The United States is set to host the next round of peace negotiations between Israel and Lebanon.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, Deputy Spokesperson for the US Department of State Tommy Pigott confirmed that the fifth round of peace talks is scheduled to take place in the United States this Wednesday.

Pigott stated that during the fourth round of negotiations held on May 2, the parties made significant progress toward reaching a comprehensive agreement. "We are overcoming the challenges of the last 20 years and moving toward a comprehensive agreement aimed at restoring Lebanon's sovereignty and ensuring Israel's security," he wrote on the social network X.

Previously, the Janoubia news portal reported, citing sources, that the US has proposed a 60-day transition period as part of a settlement plan. Under this proposal, Israeli troops would be withdrawn from Lebanese territory in phases, with their positions to be occupied by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, a major political and military force in Lebanon, has seen periodic escalations for decades, often centered on border security and regional influence. Diplomatic efforts led by the US aim to establish a sustainable ceasefire and long-term stability along the Blue Line, the demarcation line between the two nations, which has been a flashpoint for military engagements.
