The Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohammed al-Halbousi, has visited Tehran, the capital of Iran, accompanied by a parliamentary delegation.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the primary purpose of the visit was to attend the funeral ceremony of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Revolution, who was reported to have died following a joint attack by the US and Israel on February 28.

During the visit, Mohammed al-Halbousi and his delegation participated in the proceedings alongside high-level representatives from other nations who gathered in Tehran for the event.

Reports indicate that a bilateral meeting took place on the sidelines of the ceremony between the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and the Iraqi Parliament Speaker. The two officials reportedly exchanged views during their brief encounter. As of now, no official details regarding the specific topics discussed during the meeting have been released.

This diplomatic visit highlights the ongoing regional engagement between Iraq and Iran, particularly during periods of significant political transition and regional tension. High-level parliamentary exchanges often serve as a mechanism for maintaining communication channels between neighboring states, especially in the context of complex geopolitical developments in the Middle East.
