Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, speaking at a summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), proposed creating a new “CIS+1” cooperation format to deepen multilateral ties between Tehran and CIS member states. Iran’s Fars news agency reported the proposal.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Pezeshkian called for establishing a “CIS member states + Iran” format as a flexible and effective mechanism for regional dialogue, economic integration and security cooperation.
The Iranian president stressed that strategically important regional states should be key actors in shaping a new, multipolar world order based on equality. He said Tehran supports a long-term model of cooperation founded on mutual trust, respect for sovereignty and shared interests.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov previously said that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pezeshkian would hold a bilateral meeting on October 9 on the sidelines of the CIS summit. The leaders are expected to discuss strategic partnership ties and the escalating military and political situation in the Middle East.
