Iran and Oman are nearing a significant agreement regarding the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint for global energy supplies.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced during a press conference that negotiations between Tehran and Muscat have entered their final stages.
Baghaei stated that Qatari officials also visited Iran over the weekend to discuss efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region. The Iranian official noted that an agreement regarding the establishment of a temporary maritime route in the Strait of Hormuz is expected to be finalized in the coming days.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important oil transit chokepoints, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Given its strategic importance for global energy markets, any diplomatic efforts to ensure safe passage and reduce military friction in the area are closely monitored by international stakeholders and regional powers, including Azerbaijan, which maintains a keen interest in the stability of the broader Middle East region.
