International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi has described attacks on the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant that have resulted in staff deaths as unacceptable.

“Operativ Məlumat Mərkəzi-OMM” reports that the IAEA said this in a post on X.

“Grossi said any attack on nuclear power plant staff is entirely unacceptable. It represents a breach of the seven indispensable pillars for ensuring nuclear safety and security during an armed conflict,” the post said.

Grossi again called on the parties to the conflict to exercise maximum restraint to prevent the risk of a nuclear accident, the agency said.

A welder working in a repair workshop at the Zaporizhzhia plant was killed in a drone attack the previous day.

The Zaporizhzhia plant came under Russian forces’ control on March 4, 2022, following fighting in the city of Enerhodar during the first days of Russia’s military operations against Ukraine.
