Greece beats Germany for first time in history

Greece defeated Germany in the second round of Group 2 in League A of the UEFA Nations League. The match, played in Augsburg, Germany, ended with a 1-0 victory for Greece.

Dimitris Kourbelis scored the only goal in the 74th minute. It was Greece’s first victory over Germany in the national team’s history.

Greece head coach Ivan Jovanovic praised the result in comments published on UEFA’s official website: “This is a very important victory over a strong opponent and a historic win for the Greece national team in Germany. Two victories in the first two matches are of great importance for our team and its future development.”

The coach said Germany’s greater possession had been expected. According to Jovanovic, Greece took the initiative in the second half, created more dangerous attacks than before the break and ultimately secured the win.

In the next round, Greece will host the Netherlands, while Germany will face Serbia at home.
