Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili received Giorgi Zakharashvili, Georgia’s newly appointed ambassador to Azerbaijan.
"Operative Information Center-OMM", citing Georgian media, reports that the Presidential Administration issued the information.
The sides discussed the importance of the strategic partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan and prospects for further deepening bilateral relations.
"The focus was placed on the longstanding friendly relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan, as well as the role of the two countries in promoting peace, stability and economic development in the region," the statement said.
"The president congratulated Giorgi Zakharashvili on the start of his diplomatic mission and wished him success in his future activities," it added.
Georgia and Azerbaijan maintain close ties in political, economic and transport spheres. Their cooperation also includes regional connectivity and efforts to support stability and development in the South Caucasus.
