The Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee of the Parliament of Georgia has supported a bill in its first reading to establish the Tsiv-Gombori National Park near the border with Azerbaijan.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the project was presented by Zurab Ezugbaia, Georgia's Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. Under the document, the Tsiv-Gombori National Park will cover a total area of 21,761 hectares across the administrative territories of Sagarejo, Gurjaani, and Telavi municipalities in the Kakheti region. The initiative also includes the establishment of the Signagi Nature Reserve and the Tsiv-Gombori Protected Landscape.

The primary objective of establishing these new protected areas near the Azerbaijani border is to preserve local biodiversity, protect unique forest ecosystems, and boost ecotourism in the Kakheti region. The Tsiv-Gombori National Park and Signagi Nature Reserve will be managed by Georgia's Agency of Protected Areas, while the Tsiv-Gombori protected landscape zone will be administered by the Gurjaani municipality. The bill has been recommended for consideration at the plenary session of the Georgian Parliament.
