Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made statements on regional security and bilateral cooperation at a joint news conference with his Hungarian counterpart, Anita Orban (Anita Orbán).
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that, discussing the regional impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Fidan stressed the importance of preserving stability in the Black Sea basin.
The Turkish diplomat said the Black Sea must not be allowed to become a new arena for military confrontation and conflict under any circumstances.
Addressing the Mecca security agreement, Fidan said the document is defensive in nature. Under the agreement, he said, a partner country would receive appropriate defensive support if it came under attack: “This is not an offensive pact. Türkiye does not intend to deploy troops on another state’s sovereign territory to conduct offensive operations from there.”
Fidan also said all legal and administrative preparations to submit the agreement to the Grand National Assembly for approval had been completed.
