Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met Hungarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Anita Orbán in Ankara. The ministers held a joint news conference after their meeting.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Fidan stressed at the news conference that the Mecca agreement is strictly defensive in nature.
Under the agreement, if one of the participating countries comes under attack, the other parties are obliged to support its defense, he said.
“Türkiye will not send military forces into another country’s territory to carry out an attack,” Fidan said, emphasizing that the agreement has no offensive purpose.
Türkiye’s foreign minister said the necessary procedures for submitting the agreement to parliament had been completed and that the final report on the matter had been presented to the President the previous day. Fidan added that a decision had been made to submit the document to parliament as soon as possible.
