Drone attack on train near Ukraine-Poland border draws reaction

International reactions continue following Russia’s latest strikes on Ukraine over the weekend. The attacks reportedly damaged civilian and critical infrastructure.

According to Ukrainian officials, a Russian drone attacked a train near the Polish border. The strike hit the locomotive near Yahodyn station shortly before a diplomatic train reached the area.

Ukrainian Railways said the drone had been detected before the collision and passengers had been instructed to prepare for evacuation. No deaths or injuries were reported.

Ukraine said the attack may have targeted a diplomatic train carrying former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European security officials. Russia said the strike hit railway infrastructure in western Ukraine but did not comment on Kyiv’s statement that the train may have been the target.

Boris Johnson condemned the attack. He said the incident was an example of the random and senseless attacks that Ukrainians face every day, including on civilian railways. Johnson had traveled along the railway line before the attack.

Railway infrastructure has remained a key part of Ukraine’s transport network during the conflict, carrying passengers, humanitarian supplies and officials. Attacks near Ukraine’s western borders have also raised concern because the region serves as an important route for international travel and assistance.
