A criminal case has been opened over the deaths of two people who were using a zipline in Sheki.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Press Service of the Prosecutor General’s Office, that the information was received by the Sheki District Prosecutor’s Office on Sept. 8.
The incident occurred at the Sheki Yaylasi recreational center in the Bash Kungut village area of the district, where two people reportedly fell from a height and died.
A preliminary investigation established that Ucal Asif Bayramov, born in 1999, and Joshgun Jeyhun Mammadzade, born in 1995, were using the zipline when the metal structure securing the cable system deformed. As a result, the main mechanical device detached from the cable and additional safety equipment was damaged. Both men fell to the ground from a height and died at the scene.
Prosecutors inspected the scene and the bodies, ordered forensic medical, technical safety and other examinations, and carried out other necessary investigative actions.
The Sheki District Prosecutor’s Office has opened a criminal case under Article 314.3 of the Criminal Code, concerning negligence resulting in the deaths of two people. A preliminary investigation is underway.
“Necessary investigative measures are currently being taken to establish all circumstances of the incident, including its causes and conditions, the technical condition of the zipline equipment and whether its operation complied with safety requirements, as well as all other circumstances relevant to providing a legal assessment.
Media representatives and social media users are asked to refrain from disseminating unverified information that could create false perceptions and confusion among the public, as well as from sharing information that could harm the normal course of the preliminary investigation or compromise investigative secrecy,” the statement said.
