Azerbaijan expects Armenia to take the political and legal steps needed to sign the peace agreement.

Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov made the remarks while addressing the 13th summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Ankara, the capital of Türkiye, Operative Information Center-OMM reports.

The minister said Azerbaijan had ended nearly 30 years of Armenian occupation and fully restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty.

“This resolved the conflict that had persisted in the South Caucasus for many years. Azerbaijan also initiated the post-conflict peace process. The peace agreement, drafted on the basis of principles put forward by our country, was initialed last year. The process of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia is continuing.”

Jeyhun Bayramov noted that de facto peace now exists in the region.

“Nevertheless, we expect Armenia to take the political and legal steps needed to sign the peace agreement. Azerbaijan’s position is clear: we want to secure lasting and reliable peace in the South Caucasus and replace a period of confrontation in the region with one of cooperation.”

The foreign minister also drew attention to serious tensions in the current international relations system.

“Ongoing military confrontations in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and beyond, new security threats, and violations of the norms and principles of international law pose serious challenges to states. In these circumstances, Azerbaijan remains a zone of stability and security. Our country not only ensures its own security but also plays a stabilizing role in strengthening peace and cooperation across the wider region.”
