Baku to deploy record 2,530 buses from Sept. 15

The number of buses operating on Baku’s route network will reach a record 2,530 from Sept. 15.

The Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA) told the Operative Information Center-OMM.

AYNA said this would be the highest figure in recent years. In September 2022, 1,780 buses operated for passenger transport in Baku. The figure rose to 2,011 in 2023, 2,180 in 2024 and 2,340 in 2025. Thus, over five years, the number of buses operating on routes in the capital increased by 750, or 42%.

According to the information, 2,530 buses will operate simultaneously on Baku’s routes for the first time this year. This represents an increase of nearly 200 buses compared with last year.

AYNA said the increase in the number of buses was particularly important ahead of the academic year, when passenger demand rises. In addition, eight express routes have been introduced and 28 regular routes strengthened over the past month as part of a project to separate metro routes.

Work to renew the bus fleet in terms of both its size and quality will continue until the end of the year. This year, buses on 29 routes have been replaced with newer and more modern vehicles. The arrival of additional buses will expand opportunities to provide passengers with more comfortable, safer and higher-quality public transport services.

A total of 308 buses have been brought in by private and state-owned enterprises this year.
