President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the Khojaly Genocide Memorial in the city of Khojaly on November 8.

“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that the presidents of Azerbaijan and Türkiye laid wreaths in front of the memorial.

During their visit to the complex, they were told that the Khojaly Genocide Memorial was established under an order signed by President Ilham Aliyev in February 2025 to preserve the memory of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy, pass on historical facts to future generations and protect national memory. The project was implemented based on a concept developed by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

The memorial consists of four sections. The first two feature an exhibition hall dedicated to the victims of the Khojaly genocide.

The exhibition includes an installation titled “The Face of the Tragedy,” depicting civilians killed during the genocide and families wiped out.

The exhibition on the Khojaly genocide presents, through documents, maps and facts, the historical roots of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, the policy of occupation and the consequences of acts committed by Armenian terrorists on Azerbaijani territory. It features information about Khojaly’s history, the chronology of the conflict and the genocide, as well as the political and legal assessment of the genocide by National Leader Heydar Aliyev.

A model of Khojaly in the exhibition hall presents interactive information about the horrors experienced on the day of the tragedy.

The second exhibition hall uses an artificial intelligence-generated video to show the fate of eight families who were completely wiped out during the tragedy, and the lives and dreams cut short in a single night by the crime.

The exhibition hall highlights President Ilham Aliyev’s consistent policy to secure international recognition of the Khojaly truth; the work of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, under the initiative and leadership of its president, Mehriban Aliyeva, to preserve the memory of the victims and ensure justice; and activities carried out as part of the international “Justice for Khojaly!” campaign launched on the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, vice president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

Models of monuments erected in several countries in memory of the genocide victims as part of the “Justice for Khojaly!” international campaign are also on display.

The exhibition concludes with information about the 44-day Patriotic War and the restoration of state sovereignty, as well as the ideas of the “Great Return” and “Khojaly, laid to waste, will rise again.”
