The establishment of a foot-and-mouth disease-free zone is planned in the Nakhchivan economic region.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the issue is addressed in the 2027–2032 State Programme on ensuring food safety, approved by President Ilham Aliyev.
Under the programme, measures are planned to promote the establishment of farms and compartments free of animal diseases, continue the identification of animals and provide shelter for stray animals.
Foot-and-mouth disease is a highly contagious viral disease affecting cloven-hoofed animals, including cattle, sheep and goats. Disease-free zones help strengthen veterinary controls, protect livestock production and facilitate the safe movement and trade of animals and animal products.
