The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Republic of Azerbaijan has issued a statement on its official X account to commemorate the martyrs of the Canakkale Victory.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the post emphasizes the historical significance of the day: "March 18 is the Canakkale Victory Day. We commemorate with deep respect and honor the dear memory of our martyrs who showed great self-sacrifice in the Canakkale War. Their bravery and spirit of unity form the unshakable foundation of the brotherly relations between Azerbaijan and Turkiye. May their souls rest in peace."

March 18 marks the anniversary of the Canakkale battles, one of the bloodiest military operations of World War I. This year marks 111 years since the Canakkale Naval Victory, a date regarded as both a painful and honorable chapter in history. Every year, this date is observed in Turkiye as the Canakkale Naval Victory and March 18 - Martyrs' Remembrance Day. Despite the Ottoman Army suffering 250,000 martyrs in these battles, they successfully proved to the enemy that the Canakkale Strait was impassable.

The Canakkale campaign, also known as the Gallipoli campaign, remains a symbol of national identity and resilience for the Turkic world. The victory played a decisive role in the eventual emergence of the modern Republic of Turkiye and continues to serve as a testament to the strategic military prowess of the era. For Azerbaijan, the commemoration of this day highlights the "One Nation, Two States" philosophy, reflecting the shared history and deep-rooted cultural ties between Baku and Ankara.
