Kapaz head coach Azar Mammadov discussed his team’s performance after its victory over Shafa. At a news conference, he said the players had performed differently in the first and second halves.
Mammadov said injuries meant the team went into the match without several players. Despite this, Kapaz had the upper hand in the first half but failed to score because it did not finish its attacks accurately. After the break, Shafa increased the pressure and opened the scoring. Tactical changes by Kapaz’s coaching staff and the players’ performance then turned the match around, securing a win for the Ganja side.
Team development and stability at the club
The head coach credited the team’s successful results to the players’ hard work. He said the squad was becoming better coordinated with each match. Mammadov cautioned against overestimating the results, saying the team still had a lot of work to do. In his view, Kapaz is not currently ready to challenge for the top spots, but the players have greater potential.
Mammadov confirmed that the club wants to strengthen the squad and make new signings. He said he would consider it a major achievement if the team maintained its good form until the winter break.
The head coach attributed the club’s inconsistent performances in previous years to frequent changes in the squad and management. Saying Kapaz was dismantled and rebuilt every year, Mammadov expressed hope that the current management would change the situation. He said that, alongside the players and coaches, staff who had established systematic work at the club also deserved credit for the positive results.
Mammadov said that if the club maintained its working principles and received additional funding and sponsorship, Kapaz could grow stronger year by year and regain its former standing in Azerbaijani football. He also thanked fans who had travelled long distances to attend matches, saying their support played an important role in the results.
