The enemy was defeated on the battlefield.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made the remarks in his Victory Day address to the nation from Khankendi.
The head of state said the souls of the soldiers and officers who were killed in the Patriotic War should rest in peace:
“May God have mercy on all our martyrs. Thanks to their sacrifice and the heroism of our servicemen, we were able to end the Armenian occupation. The Azerbaijani Armed Forces demonstrated heroism, courage, patriotism and self-sacrifice over 44 days. During the 44-day Patriotic War, more than 300 cities and villages were liberated from the enemy on the battlefield. The Azerbaijani flag was raised in those settlements, and as a result, on the night of November 9-10, Armenia was forced to sign an act of capitulation. Thus, the territories that had not yet been liberated on the battlefield were returned to Azerbaijan at the time, without a single shot being fired or a single martyr being lost.”
