A powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Kumamoto Prefecture in southern Japan, causing widespread concern and multiple injuries. The seismic event has prompted local authorities to issue an immediate tsunami warning for the areas surrounding the Yatsushiro Sea.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, the earthquake has resulted in over 50 people sustaining injuries, all of whom have been transported to local hospitals for medical treatment. The tremors were recorded at 16:27 local time, with the epicenter located near the Uki and Hikawa districts of Kumamoto Prefecture at a depth of 10 kilometers. The shaking was also reported to be strongly felt in the Yatsushiro, Uto, and Mashiki districts.
