A murder committed with particular cruelty in Shamkir 13 years ago has been solved.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs issued a joint statement on the matter.
On Aug. 5, 2013, Kifayat Maharramova, born in 1967, was killed in the apartment where she lived.
As a result of the investigation, Shamkir resident Khayal Mammadov was identified as a suspect in the murder.
According to investigators, Mammadov killed Maharramova by repeatedly stabbing her with a pocketknife.
He then took 100 manats and gold jewelry from the apartment and left the scene.
Khayal Mammadov has been charged as an accused person under the provisions concerning murder committed with particular cruelty and for mercenary motives.
A pretrial detention measure has been imposed on him.
Investigative and search-and-operation measures in the criminal case are continuing.
The disclosure of the case followed a long-running investigation by law enforcement authorities. In Azerbaijan, criminal investigations may continue for years when investigators work to establish the circumstances of an unsolved violent crime and identify those responsible.
