Member of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) Vugar Bayramov has commented on the views expressed by President Ilham Aliyev regarding the Zangazur corridor during his interview with the "France 24" TV channel in Munich.

In a statement to Operative Information Center-OMM, the MP noted that the head of state's confidence in the opening of the land transport line connecting the main part of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan indicates that the project's implementation has already passed the stage of political decision-making.

According to Bayramov, work on the Azerbaijani section of the Zangazur corridor is nearing completion, while the section passing through Armenian territory covers only 40 kilometers. He emphasized that if the construction process is intensified, the corridor could be commissioned in a shorter timeframe. He further highlighted that according to assessments by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Türkiye, the Zangazur corridor is expected to be operational by 2030.

The MP stated that the corridor, which will have an annual carrying capacity of 15 million tons, will make a serious contribution to the economic development of the region.

“The Zangazur corridor will become an important segment of the Middle Corridor in the near future. This will further strengthen Azerbaijan's geopolitical position and increase the transit revenues of the countries in the region,” he said. Bayramov added that with the commissioning of the corridor, cargo sent from China could reach London in just 18 days. According to 10-year forecasts, the project could generate up to $50 billion in total revenue and facilitate the creation of more than 60,000 new jobs annually.

The Zangazur corridor is a strategic transportation project aimed at establishing an uninterrupted link between Azerbaijan and its exclave, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, through the Zangazur region. This initiative is a key component of the post-conflict regional reintegration efforts following the 2020 Patriotic War. Beyond its local significance, the corridor serves as a vital link in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor), connecting East Asia to Europe and enhancing Azerbaijan's status as a central logistics hub in Eurasia.
