US Senator Chris Coons praised the longstanding partnership between Türkiye and the United States at a New York gala marking 100 years of friendship between the two countries.
Coons made the remarks on Monday at the “100 Years of Friendship Gala”, attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and First Lady Emine Erdogan, according to Anadolu Agency.
He described the relationship as a “hundred years of deep and meaningful partnership and friendship, cemented by business”, highlighting the role of trade ties and entrepreneurship in strengthening bilateral relations.
Türkiye and US to mark 75 years as NATO allies
Referring to his recent visit to Ankara for the NATO summit, Coons underlined the countries’ longstanding alliance. Türkiye and the United States will mark 75 years as NATO treaty allies next year.
The senator said the NATO summit in Ankara was particularly important for the future of the alliance. He also highlighted the contributions of Turkish businesspeople operating in the United States.
Senior officials attend New York event
The gala was organised by the US Chamber of Commerce and the US-Türkiye Business Council and hosted in New York by council chairman Hamdi Ulukaya.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, Trade Minister Omer Bolat, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacir, Health Minister Kemal Memisoglu, and Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Ozdemir Goktas attended the event.
Mehmet Oz, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, as well as numerous senior US officials and members of Congress, were also present.
