US forces destroyed another vessel in the eastern Pacific Ocean the previous day, reportedly because it was linked to an Ecuadorian drug cartel.
"Operative Information Center-OMM" reports, citing foreign media.
According to information released by the US Southern Command, intelligence confirmed that the vessel was linked to Ecuador’s “Los Choneros” drug-trafficking and terrorist organization.
The command said the people aboard the vessel were handed over to Ecuadorian authorities.
US forces sank the vessel after inspecting it and removing its crew.
According to the report, the vessel operated as a floating refueling station for other boats used to transport drugs in the eastern Pacific.
According to the US side, since the end of August 2026, US forces have sunk at least five vessels reportedly used as floating refueling stations for “Los Choneros.”
The US Southern Command said the operations were carried out as part of efforts to combat drug-smuggling networks.
The eastern Pacific is a major transit route for maritime drug trafficking, with authorities in the region regularly conducting operations to intercept vessels suspected of supporting organized criminal groups.
