The US Treasury Department on September 10 imposed sanctions on a number of individuals and entities in Iraq, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates suspected of having ties to Iran.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the department issued a statement on the matter.
The department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said it had taken action under its “Economic Isolation” operation against networks enabling Iran’s regime to undermine stability in the Middle East through terrorist proxy groups.
“Today’s actions target organizations and individuals supporting Kataib Hezbollah and Hezbollah,” the US Treasury Department said.
A total of 13 individuals were added to the sanctions list. They include Iraqi nationals linked to the Kataib Hezbollah group, as well as Lebanese nationals associated with Hezbollah.
In addition, sanctions were imposed on four commanders and members of Kataib Hezbollah, as well as five companies and financial institutions.
The US Treasury Department said the sanctions were part of broader measures responding to Iran’s support for armed groups in the region.
US sanctions generally block the designated parties’ property and interests in property under US jurisdiction and prohibit US persons from engaging in transactions with them. OFAC administers and enforces US economic and trade sanctions based on foreign policy and national security objectives.
