The United States imposed targeted sanctions on eight entities, two individuals and five petroleum tankers linked to Cuba on Thursday, adding to a continuing wave of economic pressure on Havana, Anadolu Agency reported.
The US State Department said the designations target what it described as the Cuban military’s “illicit” revenue streams, energy supply networks, government “elites” and Chinese defense contractors supplying equipment to Havana’s armed forces.
Separately, the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control expanded its authority to impose secondary sanctions on foreign persons operating in Cuba’s manufacturing, technology, electronics and marine sectors.
In response, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez wrote on “X”: “We denounce that over the past 10 months, the Cuban people have suffered an unprecedented reinforcement of the US economic blockade, the imposition of an energy siege equivalent to a naval blockade, and the application of secondary sanctions.”
