Urmia airport and several other strategic locations in Iran have been targeted by missile strikes launched by the United States and Israel, according to Hamed Saffari, the Director General of the West Azerbaijan Province Crisis Management Department. The official statement, reported by the state-run IRNA news agency, confirmed that multiple points across the province were hit during the operation.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, while specific details regarding the extent of the damage have not yet been fully disclosed, emergency services and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the affected sites. Similar strikes were reported in other regions of the country. In the Khuzestan province, two shipbuilding companies located in the city of Khorramshahr were subjected to aerial bombardment, resulting in large plumes of smoke over the city, though no casualties were reported. Additionally, local authorities in Yazd province confirmed that US and Israeli forces conducted strikes on Yazd city, with no immediate reports of fatalities.
These developments come amid heightened regional tensions and a significant escalation in military activity involving US and Israeli forces. The targeting of infrastructure, particularly in West Azerbaijan and Khuzestan, underscores the volatile security situation in the Middle East. US President Donald Trump has previously emphasized the administration's commitment to addressing security threats in the region, while international observers continue to monitor the potential for further escalation following these coordinated strikes on Iranian strategic assets.
