Türkiye’s National Security Council has called on the international community to take “concrete steps” against Israel, accusing it of undermining regional stability and violating Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The council issued the statement after a meeting chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Anadolu Agency reported.
It said positive developments had been observed in efforts to strengthen Syria’s unity and territorial integrity, extend state authority across the country and advance its integration process. Türkiye would continue supporting the Syrian people in rebuilding their country and strengthening ties with the international community, it added.
Calls for an end to regional conflicts
The council said Israel had continued its attacks in Gaza and Lebanon without fulfilling its commitments and obligations regarding the establishment of peace.
It described the war involving the United States, Israel and Iran as a “vicious cycle” that was creating vulnerabilities across the region, and called on the parties to return to negotiations.
The council urged the parties to end the conflict, warning that its global consequences were becoming increasingly severe.
It also discussed the latest developments in the Russia-Ukraine war and the regional and global effects of attacks targeting civilian infrastructure and navigation routes. The council called on the parties to exercise restraint and agree to a ceasefire amid signs of uncontrolled escalation and spillover.
Türkiye’s security and regional cooperation
The council was briefed on domestic and international efforts to counter threats to Türkiye’s national unity, territorial integrity and security, particularly from the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) and the Islamic State group, also known as Daesh.
It assessed measures aimed at achieving a “Terror-Free Türkiye” and a “Terror-Free Region”, saying efforts to ensure the security of Türkiye, its people and neighboring countries would continue with determination.
Regarding Iraq, the council stressed that the country’s peace and stability were critically important to the wider region. It welcomed Baghdad’s efforts to strengthen state sovereignty nationwide and reaffirmed Türkiye’s determination to advance strategic cooperation with Iraq.
On Yemen, the council said rising tensions had increased security risks in the region, particularly for neighboring countries. It stressed the urgent need to restore calm, saying this was also important for global stability.
