Türkiye is highlighting its preparations to host and chair the 31st UN Climate Change Conference, or COP31, in New York as world leaders attend the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, according to the source report.
Posters promoting Türkiye’s COP31 presidency and featuring President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have been displayed at the Turkish House, known as Turkevi, in Manhattan. The campaign carries the slogan “The Future of the World is in Türkiye.”
Vehicles displaying digital COP31 materials have also been moving through New York, including Times Square and routes linking the area to the UN headquarters. Türkiye is using the General Assembly week to present its preparations and climate agenda ahead of the conference in Antalya in November.
Turkish officials to present COP31 preparations
Erdogan is scheduled to attend a high-level climate meeting organised by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday. He is expected to brief participants on Türkiye’s preparations to host COP31.
First lady Emine Erdogan, who chairs the UN Zero Waste Advisory Board, is also due to take part in events highlighting Türkiye’s climate and sustainability initiatives during the General Assembly week.
Interactive COP31 exhibitions in New York
Turkevi is hosting exhibitions and interactive installations designed to introduce international visitors to Türkiye’s plans for the conference. The main exhibition, titled “Seeing the Unseen, Hearing the Unheard: SCOPE as a Vision of the Future,” combines artificial intelligence, sound, mapping technologies, immersive displays and art installations.
Visitors will see an interactive installation featuring Caretta, Türkiye’s COP31 mascot, as well as a photography experience inspired by the traditional Turkish art of ebru. Another section includes a three-dimensional model of the planned COP31 venue in Antalya, while a mapping presentation illustrates the site’s layout and visitor experience.
Digital displays will present Türkiye’s COP31 Action Agenda. Other installations examine the impact of climate change on oceans, agriculture, soil and the global climate system. The exhibition will conclude with “LET’S COP – Türkiye’s Climate Journey,” presented on a large LED wall.
A separate exhibition at New York’s Glasshouse will feature four presentations focusing on climate and nature. It will outline Türkiye’s climate vision and Action Agenda before presenting works by artists Ilhami Atalay and Ekrem Sahin.
Atalay’s “Return of the Birds – Tawaf” explores the collective movement of birds and the idea of gathering around a common centre. Sahin’s “Sound of Water” photography exhibition examines climate change through water. The programme will conclude with a live ebru performance by artist Garip Ay.
Türkiye’s Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and COP31 President Murat Kurum is also holding a series of meetings in New York as preparations for the Antalya conference intensify.
