Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to embark on an official visit to South Korea tomorrow.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Turkish media reports, the visit aims to deepen bilateral relations between Ankara and Seoul.
During his visit, Minister Fidan is scheduled to hold high-level talks with his South Korean counterpart, Cho Tae-yul. In addition to diplomatic discussions, Fidan is expected to deliver a keynote address at a conference hosted by Korea University.
The agenda for the meetings includes strengthening the strategic partnership between Turkey and South Korea. Key topics of discussion will involve expanding economic and trade relations, increasing mutual investments, and updating the existing Free Trade Agreement to be more comprehensive.
Furthermore, the ministers will explore opportunities for cooperation in the reconstruction processes of Ukraine, Syria, and Palestine, as well as potential joint projects in Central Asia and Africa. The discussions will also cover prospects for collaboration in nuclear and renewable energy, alongside strategic initiatives in artificial intelligence, semiconductor technologies, biotechnology, next-generation battery systems, and transport infrastructure.
Defense industry cooperation remains a central pillar of the visit. Minister Fidan is expected to highlight the successful experience of the Altay main battle tank project while discussing potential joint ventures in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), armed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and other defense-related initiatives.
The visit will also serve as a platform to emphasize the importance of multilateral cooperation within international organizations such as the UN and the G20. The parties will exchange views on pressing regional and global issues, including the Russia-Ukraine war, developments in Iran, Palestine, Syria, and the situation in East Asia.
Turkey and South Korea have maintained strong diplomatic ties since the Korean War, during which Turkey was a key contributor to the UN-led coalition. In recent years, both nations have increasingly sought to align their defense and technological capabilities, reflecting a shared interest in global stability and economic growth.
