Turkey believes the negotiation process on Ukraine should continue in a calm environment and that steps capable of disrupting the process or triggering a new escalation should be avoided.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that RIA Novosti cited a source in the Turkish government as saying this.
According to the report, the negotiation track must be maintained in a calm atmosphere. Steps and statements that could obstruct the process, provoke tensions or disrupt dialogue should be avoided. It was also noted that preserving the possibility of diplomatic contact between the parties is particularly important at present.
It was reported that on Sept. 4, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the position of Russian President Vladimir Putin on negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine had been outlined two years earlier and remained unchanged.
Turkey has repeatedly supported diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict and has emphasized the importance of maintaining channels of communication between the parties. Ankara hosted talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul in 2022 and has continued to call for dialogue and de-escalation.
