Seven people have been detained in Khachmaz on suspicion of illegal drug trafficking.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs’ press service told Operative Information Center-OMM.
According to the ministry, officers from the Khachmaz District Police Department detained Elchin Alasgarov, Imran Ilyasov, Farhad Aliyarov, Sarkhan Shikhiev, Ruslan Khurshudov, Imran Pashayev and Parviz Khurshudov during an operation on suspicion of cultivating, selling and possessing drug-containing plants.
Police found 67 drug-containing plants with a total weight of 40 kilograms and three kilograms of various types of narcotics in their possession.
Criminal proceedings have been launched. A court ordered the seven suspects to be remanded in custody as a preventive measure.
Khachmaz is a district in northern Azerbaijan, bordering the Caspian Sea and located near the country’s northern frontier. Law enforcement agencies regularly conduct operations across Azerbaijan to combat the illegal circulation of narcotic substances.
