The number of students killed in a fire in the Kadutu district of Bukavu, Democratic Republic of the Congo, has risen to 29.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing national media, that the fire started at a home in the Cimpunda neighborhood before spreading to the Ujamaa and Furaha primary schools.
Twenty-five students were injured, four of them seriously, according to reports.
The two wooden school buildings were completely destroyed.
More than 300 homes in the surrounding area were also rendered uninhabitable.
The fire was brought under control after emergency response teams intervened.
The cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed.
