A Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile and a drone launched by the Houthi group toward southern Saudi Arabia on Sunday, according to Anadolu Agency.
Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki announced the interception of the ballistic missile in a statement on “X”, followed by a separate statement saying a drone had also been shot down.
Both weapons were launched toward the kingdom’s southern region, the statements said. They did not identify the intended targets or report any casualties or damage.
Earlier on Sunday, Saudi authorities issued emergency warnings in Abha and Khamis Mushait governorate in southwestern Saudi Arabia, then announced that the danger had passed in both areas.
The announcements came hours after the coalition said it had conducted a military operation to “neutralize vital resources” used by the Houthis to support their war effort and strengthen their military capabilities, particularly ballistic missiles and drones.
Saudi Arabia has faced repeated Houthi missile and drone attacks in recent weeks.
