Saudi Arabia issues danger alert for Mecca, Jeddah and Taif

Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense Directorate has issued a danger alert for strategic cities in the country’s western region.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the agency announced the alert on its official account on the X social media platform.

According to the report, emergency notifications were sent to residents of Mecca, Jeddah and Taif through the National Early Warning Platform. The Civil Defense Directorate urged citizens and residents to remain highly vigilant over possible risks, immediately move to safe shelters or interior areas of buildings, and stay away from windows and open spaces. People were also advised to avoid crowded areas, park vehicles away from bridges and tall buildings, and refrain from recording footage during any incident.

Although the official notification did not specify the exact reason for the warning, analysts said it could be linked to rising military tensions with Houthi forces in Yemen and the risk of an air attack. According to the latest information, the Civil Defense Directorate has since announced that the danger alert in the areas concerned had ended and that the source of the risk had passed.

Mecca, Jeddah and Taif are among the most significant cities in western Saudi Arabia. Mecca is home to Islam’s holiest sites, while Jeddah is a major Red Sea port and commercial center, and Taif is an important regional city near Mecca.
