More than 600,000 people were left without electricity on Nov. 8 after a Russian overnight attack on energy infrastructure in Ukraine’s eastern Dnipropetrovsk region, AnewZ reports, citing Ukrainian energy company DTEK.
Key energy facilities were damaged in the attack, the company said. DTEK warned on social media platform X that electricity supply could be switched on and off several times during the day as repair work continues.
DTEK also said the overnight attack damaged a company energy facility in Kyiv region and substations belonging to Ukrenergo, Ukraine’s national grid operator. The substations transmit electricity from nuclear power plants to the capital, Kyiv region and central Ukraine.
The company said some facilities had already been restored, but repair work was continuing. Emergency power cuts were introduced in Kyiv region, while scheduled outages were implemented in most other regions.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Sunday that it had struck a substation in Zhytomyr region which, it claimed, supplied electricity to Ukraine’s defense industry. The ministry also said a container ship carrying weapons and military equipment to Ukraine had been hit southwest of the city of Odesa.
The attacks were reported in various areas, including eastern and central Ukraine. Work to repair damage to the country’s power grid is continuing.
Meanwhile, one person was killed in a Ukrainian drone attack in Russia’s Kursk region, regional Governor Alexander Khinshtein said on Sunday. A tractor in the village of Pervomayskoye came under attack while in operation, killing a 40-year-old man at the scene.
