Russian foreign minister arrives in New York for UN General Assembly

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has arrived in New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he is scheduled to meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to Russia’s Permanent Mission to the UN.

Lavrov arrived late Tuesday and is due to address the General Assembly on Saturday.

Lavrov’s meetings at the UN

Kirill Logvinov, Russia’s foreign ministry official responsible for international organisations, told state news agency TASS that Lavrov will take part in 20 international meetings at the UN.

The Russian minister is also scheduled to meet Rubio at 9 a.m. local time on Wednesday, according to the US State Department. The meeting is scheduled for 1300 GMT.

Additional talks planned

TASS reported separately that Lavrov has more than 30 meetings scheduled on the sidelines of the General Assembly.
