More than 60% of world leaders referred to artificial intelligence in their high-level speeches at the 81st UN General Assembly, according to Melissa Summer, spokesperson for the president of the General Assembly.
“According to our preliminary numbers, more than 60% of speakers mentioned artificial intelligence in their speeches,” Summer told reporters on Tuesday.
AI references recorded across 122 countries
An analysis of speeches delivered during the general debate found references to AI from 122 countries. The discussions reflected growing international attention to the pace of technological development, safeguards for containing risks and autonomous systems.
Climate issues and women’s representation
Summer said nearly three-quarters of participants also highlighted climate challenges during their addresses.
Women accounted for roughly 14% of speakers at the rostrum, up slightly from 12% in 2025. However, she cautioned that progress in representation remained “not nearly fast enough.”
