Qarabag midfielder Reda Khadra has received his first call-up to the Lebanon national team. Head coach Majid Bougherra included the 25-year-old in the squad for an international tournament to be held in Iraq in November.
Lebanon, Iraq, Iran and Palestine will take part in the four-team competition. San Antonio goalkeeper Joseph Batruni has also been called up for the first time. The selections of both players are part of a strategy to bring players of Lebanese descent who play abroad into the team.
Tournament schedule
Bougherra said he had seen Khadra’s enthusiasm for representing Lebanon during a conversation with him. The coach said that, alongside a player’s ability, their desire to wear the national team shirt was also important.
Born in Germany, Khadra has played for Borussia Dortmund’s second team, Brighton, Blackburn, Sheffield United, Birmingham, Reims and Le Havre during his career.
Lebanon will open its campaign against Iraq in Basra on November 13. The final and third-place match are scheduled for November 17.
Khadra joined Qarabag on August 27. The parties signed a two-plus-one-year contract.
