Portugal confirms Cristiano Ronaldo has left national team camp

The Portuguese Football Federation has issued a statement regarding the departure of forward and captain Cristiano Ronaldo from the national team’s camp in Copenhagen.

The federation said preparations for the matches against Denmark and Norway would continue as planned. The game against Norway will be held at the Dragao Stadium.

“The entire delegation remains fully focused on the upcoming national team matches and the objectives that have been set,” the statement said.

Ronaldo had reportedly decided to leave the camp after a press conference held by head coach Jorge Jesus and a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation. The 41-year-old forward said he would later explain the reasons for his decision to the Portuguese public.

Portugal’s next Nations League matches will be played on Oct. 1 and 4. The team will first face Denmark away before hosting Norway. The Nations League is a UEFA competition for European national teams, with matches played during designated international windows.
