Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed a meeting of the Planning and Development Council of East Azerbaijan province by video link, making a broad statement on the country’s socioeconomic situation and domestic political climate, according to Iran’s official IRNA news agency.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Pezeshkian recalled how economic and social problems were addressed through mosques and local communities in the early years of the 1979 revolution. He stressed the importance of solidarity at neighborhood and community level under current conditions and said citizens’ social needs must be treated with sensitivity.
Addressing domestic and foreign challenges, Pezeshkian described the scale of the economic and military-political crisis facing the country:
“In the 48 years since the Islamic Revolution, the country has never faced external pressure, sanctions and complex difficulties as severe as those it faces now,” Pezeshkian said.
He said foreign powers and “hostile circles” had targeted Iran’s supreme leader, military commanders and government officials in an effort to create domestic chaos and instability.
However, the Iranian president said plans to create chaos in the country had failed and that national unity and solidarity in society had instead strengthened amid external threats.
